USCG Bibb: Explore Key Largo’s Deepest Sunken Wreck

Dive the remains of an epic World War II Coast Guard vessel. USCG Bibb is the deepest and most advanced wreck of  Key Largo's artificial reef, offering scuba divers an incredibly preserved glimpse into the past. Commissioned in 1936, this 327-foot Treasury-class Coast Guard cutter was named after George M. Bibb, former Secretary of the Treasury. Built for durability and long-range missions, the USCG Bibb served the United States with distinction for nearly 50 years.

During World War II, the USCG Bibb was heavily involved in the Battle of the Atlantic, where she escorted convoys across the North Atlantic, protecting them from German U-boat attacks. She later served in the Pacific Theater, providing support during major military campaigns including the Battle of Okinawa. Her legacy didn’t stop there—during the Vietnam War, the USCG Bibb was once again called into service, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most versatile and reliable vessels of her class.

After her decommissioning in 1985, the ship was selected for a new mission: to become an artificial reef. On November 28, 1987, after being carefully prepared to meet environmental and safety standards, the USCG Bibb was intentionally sunk off the coast of Key Largo, Florida.
