Build Confidence in Deep Diving in Key Largo

PADI Deep Diver Course at Sail Fish Scuba

Explore deeper with the PADI Deep Diver Specialty at Sail Fish Scuba in Key Largo, Florida. Build the knowledge and skills to plan and safely complete dives beyond traditional recreational depths, with training focused on deep dive procedures, safety considerations, and dives to a maximum depth of 130 feet.

PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course in Key Largo

What is the Deep Diver Specialty Course?

The PADI Deep Diver Specialty prepares you to safely plan and make dives beyond the 60-foot Open Water Diver limit, with training dives reaching a maximum depth of 130 feet (40 meters).

Over four deep training dives with a PADI Instructor, you’ll practice controlled descents, buoyancy at depth, and safety stops while seeing firsthand how increased depth affects color, physical objects, and even the way you think underwater. You’ll also develop a better understanding of deep dive planning, procedures, safety considerations, and the additional challenges that come with increased depth.

To enroll in the PADI Deep Diver Specialty, you must be at least 15 years old and certified as a PADI Adventure Diver or higher.

Explore Key Largo’s Deep Dive Sites

The USS Spiegel Grove is one of our favorite Key Largo dive sites for PADI Deep Diver training. This massive wreck gives divers the opportunity to experience deeper diving while putting their planning, buoyancy, and awareness skills into practice.

PADI Deep Diver Specialty Curriculum

What You'll Learn During the Deep Diver Specialty Course

At Sail Fish Scuba in Key Largo, your PADI Instructor will guide you through the planning, procedures, and skills needed for safe, confident deep diving.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Plan and make dives to a maximum depth of 130 feet (40 meters)
  • Understand important safety considerations for deep diving
  • Practice controlled descents and manage depth
  • Monitor and manage your gas supply at depth
  • Recognize the effects of gas narcosis and know how to respond.

5 Reasons To Complete Your PADI Deep Diver Course!

Access New Dive Sites

One of the best reasons to earn your PADI Deep Diver certification is simple: it opens up more places to dive. It’s not about going deep just to go deep—it’s about being able to explore sites that aren’t accessible at shallower depths.

Here in Key Largo, the USS Spiegel Grove, USCGC Duane, and USCGC Bibb are three of our signature deep wreck dives. Each offers a completely different underwater experience, from the massive structure of the Spiegel Grove to the dramatic upright profiles of the Duane and Bibb.

Complete your PADI Deep Diver Specialty with Sail Fish Scuba and expand the range of Key Largo dive sites you’re prepared to explore.

Develop Your Skills

Additional training gives you the chance to sharpen the skills you already have while learning new techniques for diving at greater depths. During the PADI Deep Diver Specialty, you’ll gain hands-on experience with deep dive planning, gas management, buoyancy and depth control, and the equipment and procedures used for deeper recreational diving.

The more you understand about what changes as you descend, the better prepared you are to manage your dive. Building these skills with a PADI Instructor can help you become a more capable, experienced, and confident diver.

Become a Safer Diver

Deep diving requires an understanding of the additional risks that come with increased depth—and how to manage them. Factors such as nitrogen narcosis, increased gas consumption, shorter no-decompression limits, and changing conditions all require greater awareness and planning.

During the PADI Deep Diver Specialty, you’ll learn to recognize potential hazards, understand important safety considerations, and plan for situations that may arise during a deep dive. This knowledge helps you become a safer, more prepared diver wherever your diving takes you.

Discover Different Marine Life

As you descend deeper, the underwater environment begins to change—and so can the marine life you encounter. That’s part of what makes deep diving so interesting.

Here in Key Largo, our deeper wreck sites create massive artificial reefs that attract an incredible variety of marine life. The USS Spiegel Grove, USCGC Duane, and USCGC Bibb are home to large schools of fish and are also great places to keep an eye out for Caribbean reef sharks and even bull sharks.

Earning your PADI Deep Diver certification gives you the training to explore these deeper environments and experience a completely different side of diving in Key Largo.

Fitness to Dive

Diver Medical Form

The PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is a scuba diving course with in-water training, so all participants are required to complete the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire before beginning the course.

The Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire is designed to help assess your overall health and identify any medical conditions that could affect your ability to dive safely.  The Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire is required for all recreational scuba diving and freediving courses.

1. If you respond with a “yes” to statements 3, 5 or 10 on page 1 of the Diver Medical form, you must obtain written clearance to dive from a physician as a prerequisite to in-water activities.

2. A “yes” response to statements 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9 on page 1 of the Diver Medical form requires you to respond to statements on page 2. A “yes” response to any statements on page 2 requires written clearance to dive from your physician as a prerequisite to in-water activities.

3. There can be no restrictions or conditions noted by your physician (for example, depth limits, water temperature restrictions, etc.)

4. Medical clearance from a physician is valid for one year.

Health, Fitness, and Continuing Education for Divers

Scuba diving, freediving, and snorkeling are physically strenuous activities that require participants to be in good overall physical and mental health. If you have any concerns about your health or fitness to dive, we strongly recommend consulting with a physician prior to your participation. As a certified diver, it is your responsibility to maintain and refresh your knowledge and skills through regular practice and ongoing education.
